Artist’s Statement

“My work consists of narrative, figurative and geometric shapes and forms. I draw ideas from past experiences, memories, common objects and everyday occurrences. The geometric shapes in my work relate to my impressions from architecture and landscape of Japan and United States. My figurative work is usually an extension of myself. From these areas a number of combinations can become a source for a new project or sculpture. Recurring themes relate to reaching out, balancing, being trapped and escaping. I try to capture and express emotions common to all of us. The basic shapes, forms or colors reinforce the sculptural concept and ideas. My purpose is not always to make a statement with each piece. Rather, I hope to offer the viewer different opportunities to make a freer and more personal interpretation.”
